Gut-Health Smoothie

Total duration: 10 minutes
Yield: 1 serving

➜ Maintaining a healthy gut, which is crucial for a strong immune system, requires two types of ingredients: prebiotics and probiotics (see information to the right for more gut health basics). Prebiotic foods provide fuel for the good bacteria in the gut, while probiotic foods provide the bacteria themselves. This drink contains three exceptional ingredients for intestinal health. High in fiber, bananas and kiwis are prebiotic powerhouses. And kefir, similar to liquid yogurt but with more beneficial bacteria, is a probiotic boon.

INGREDIENTS :

  • 1 cup chopped kale, packed
  • 1 cup whole kefir
  • 1 tablespoon creamy almond butter
  • 1 frozen banana, sliced
  • 1 kiwi, peeled

Directions:

In a blender, combine kale, kefir, almond butter, banana, and kiwi and blend until smooth. Serve in a tall glass.
