Sticky Sesame Chicken Wings Recipe
Ingredients:
- Chicken Wings: 2 pounds
- Soy Sauce: 1/4 cup (low sodium recommended)
- Honey: 1/4 cup
- Sesame Oil: 2 tablespoons
- Rice Vinegar: 2 tablespoons
- Garlic: 4 cloves, minced
- Ginger: 1 tablespoon, grated
- Brown Sugar: 2 tablespoons
- Sriracha: 1 tablespoon (optional, for a spicy kick)
- Sesame Seeds: 2 tablespoons
- Green Onions: 2 stalks, chopped
- Cornstarch: 1 tablespoon (optional, for thickening sauce)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Marinade:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, rice vinegar, garlic, ginger, brown sugar, and sriracha. Mix well until the brown sugar is fully dissolved.
- Marinate the Chicken:
- Add the chicken wings to the bowl and toss to coat evenly with the marinade. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight for maximum flavor.
- Cook the Chicken Wings:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top. Arrange the marinated chicken wings on the rack, reserving the marinade.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the wings are crispy and cooked through.
- Make the Sticky Sauce:
- While the wings are baking, pour the reserved marinade into a small saucepan. If you prefer a thicker sauce, mix cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water and add it to the sauce.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer over medium heat, stirring frequently until it thickens.
- Coat the Wings:
- Once the wings are done, remove them from the oven and toss them in the sticky sesame sauce until well coated.
- Garnish and Serve:
- Sprinkle the wings with sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
- Serve immediately with extra sauce on the side.
Tips for Perfect Sticky Sesame Chicken Wings
- Overnight Marination: For deeper flavor, marinate the wings overnight. This allows the marinade to penetrate the meat, resulting in a more flavorful dish.
- Crispy Wings: Ensure the wings are placed on a wire rack when baking. This allows air to circulate around the wings, making them extra crispy.
- Adjust the Spice Level: If you prefer less heat, reduce the amount of sriracha, or omit it entirely. Conversely, add more if you like your wings extra spicy.
- Serving Suggestions: These wings pair well with a side of steamed rice or a fresh cucumber salad. They also make an excellent appetizer for parties.
- Leftovers: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven to maintain crispiness.
