Have you ever tried something so delicious you can barely stand it…and something that you’re even more shocked that you actually made. This is one of those recipes.
This popular fried onion burger is made with hamburger, cheese and onions. A mouth-watering delicacy that’s perfect as an appetizer.
Oklahoma fried onion burger is a delicious snack that you can enjoy as a treat at home or serve at parties as a side dish. This recipe is really easy to make and you won’t need to travel to the Earth’s ends to get the ingredients.
I love those recipes that we all grew up with, they are just too good to miss out on.
Ingredients:
°canola or vegetable oil, enough to lightly oil the crankcase
°1 lb burger
°1-2 sweet onions, very thinly sliced (about a third of an onion per burger or as desired)
°salt
°coarsely ground black pepper
°3 to 6 slices of American cheese
°3 to 6 hamburger buns, steamed or grilled
+Toppings may include:
°lettuce (whole leaves, chopped or grated), sliced tomatoes, sliced sweet or dill pickles, mayo, ketchup, A.1. steak sauce, mustard, relish, peperoncini pepper rings, or whatever you like!
Instructions
Get the grill pan very hot. Oil grill where the burgers go. Place a ball of meat (1/3 lb or 1/6 lb for thinner burgers / see note) on the hot grill and mash a little with a sharp spatula.
Place a small handful of very thinly sliced onions on top, then smash the burger the rest of the way, crushing the onions into the meat.
Season the top with salt and pepper and cook. Don’t mess with that.
When the bottom is dark brown and the burger is almost done, scrape it under the burger to get the “skin” and turn it over.
Continue to cook for 1-2 more minutes. Top with cheese and melt for about 1-2 minutes more. *While the cheese is melting, you can place the buns, cut them on the grill to toast.
Place the burger on the bottom bun, dress it how you like it, place it on the top bun, and dig in! Enjoy!
